Valkeryie.com was born (as most businesses are) in a bar one
night sipping a very delectable Cabernet. While sitting and discussing the
direction I wanted to take our company with my then boyfriend, now husband, we
wanted to come up with something catchy, unique but fitting for the business
model I wanted to provide to the world. So? After a short walk outside, he came
back in and whispered in my ear, “Shauna, I GOT it. Valkeryie.”
“What the HECK is a Valkeryie?” I asked.
So, naturally,
straight to Google I went, and this is what I found:
In Norse mythology, a Valkeryie (from Old Norse valkyrja "chooser of the slain") is one of a host of female figures who choose those who may die in battle and those who may live. Selecting among half of those who die in battle (the other half go to the goddess Freyja's afterlife field Fólkvangr), the Valkeryies bring their chosen to the afterlife hall of the slain, Valhalla, ruled over by the god Odin.
